Diesel up 9.4%, petrol 4%, LPG 7.6% from Sept 16 – COPEC

Fuel prices are expected to rise sharply from Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as the second pricing window opens, according to the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC).
According to COPEC’s projections, petrol prices will rise by 3.98%, diesel by 9.41%, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 7.65%.
Petrol is expected to sell at an average of GHS13.61 per litre, up from the current GHS13.09. Diesel is projected to go up to GHS14.08 per litre from GHS13.32, while LPG is expected to sell at an average of GHS12.52 per kilogram.
The increase is attributed largely to the sharp depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar, which fell by 8.62% within the current pricing window, moving from GHS11.03 to GHS12.07 per dollar.
This currency weakness, COPEC explained, has offset the marginal drop in global crude oil prices, which fell by 0.52% from $67.67 to $67.32 per barrel.
“In conclusion, it is the expectation of COPEC that the various Oil Marketing Companies try to absorb some portions of these upward adjustments by shelving some of their margins in order not to overburden the consumer with these expected steep pricing adjustments,” COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, said in a statement issued on September 15.
