Asantehene’s Intervention Ends Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Strike

The indefinite strike by the Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) has been suspended, following the direct intervention of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The doctors had downed tools over the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo.
But in a statement issued on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, KADA announced an immediate halt to the industrial action, crediting the Asantehene’s timely involvement as a decisive factor.
Fruitful discussions
According to the association, fruitful discussions facilitated by Otumfuo who is outside the country, alongside the hospital board, management, and other key stakeholders, paved the way for the suspension.
While KADA acknowledged that the underlying concerns over the CEO’s suspension remain unresolved, the doctors said the King’s appeal and the broader public interest in patient care weighed heavily in their decision to return to the negotiating table. “We have carefully considered the potential impact of prolonged action on patient care and public health,” the statement read, adding that patient safety remains central to their responsibilities.
Appreciation
KADA expressed deep appreciation to Otumfuo as well as the hospital’s board and management for their roles in brokering the talks.
The association also thanked the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and several professional health groups for their solidarity during the impasse, while reiterating optimism that continued dialogue would lead to a full resolution.
