Samira Bawumia Meets AfCFTA Secretary-General to Boost Women, Youth in Green Economy
Samira Bawumia, Ghana’s former Second Lady and prospective future First Lady, has held talks with AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Mene to champion the role of women and young people in Africa’s emerging green economy.
The discussion was among a series of high-profile international engagements she has been having recently.
She has also participated in Turkey’s 104th Victory Day Anniversary (Armed Forces Day) and delivered the keynote address at the Sustainable Wellness Summit during London Climate Action Week, hosted by Newsweek Magazine in June.
Women and youth
In a social media post after the AfCFTA meeting, Samira stated: “As Africa accelerates the implementation of the AfCFTA, we must ensure that women and young people are not only participants but drivers of Africa’s green and inclusive economic transformation.”
She stressed that deliberate policies and partnerships are needed to position Africa’s next generation at the forefront of sustainable development under the continental free trade area.
