Mugabe Maase Retracts “Lies” Against Napo; Pleads for Forgiveness Amid GHS 20 Million Defamation Suit

Broadcaster Salifu Maase, known in media circles as Mugabe Maase, has publicly apologized to former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (Napo), admitting that his claims about Napo masterminding power outages in the Ashanti Region for political gain were “total lies” and “fabrications” with no evidence.

Mugabe retracted his statements and appealed directly, “I am asking Hon. Napo to forgive me. I lied about him.”

Lawsuit
Napo has sued Mugabe and TV XYZ for GHS 20 million over the comments made during the May 4, 2026 edition of “Inside Politics” on TV XYZ and Power 97.9 FM. The suit, filed through Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners at the Accra High Court, accuses the defendants of airing “false and malicious” statements.

What happens next?
The apology comes after the lawsuit was filed, but it remains unclear if this will affect the legal proceedings. Napo’s camp has not yet issued a public response to the retraction.
