Bawumia Donates Relief Items to Accra Flood Victims, Calls for National Unity

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has fulfilled a promise to donate relief items to victims of the devastating floods that struck parts of Accra on Monday, June 29.

Dr. Bawumia visited affected communities on Tuesday, June 30, where he personally delivered supplies and offered words of encouragement to families grappling with the disaster’s aftermath.

In a Facebook post following his visit, he expressed deep admiration for the courage displayed by victims in the face of heartbreaking loss. “Earlier today, I visited some families affected by the recent floods. Their courage in the face of such heartbreaking loss is truly inspiring,” he wrote.

He added that he was providing support “in my own little way” and encouraged all Ghanaians to lend a helping hand where they can.

Background
The flood, triggered by unusually heavy rainfall, submerged entire buildings and roads in the capital, leading to the deaths of at least 13 people and the displacement of numerous residents. Rescue operations by the Ghana National Fire Service have resulted in over 470 rescues.

During his tour, Dr. Bawumia cautioned against politicizing the tragedy and emphasized the need for a united national response to the recurring flooding crisis in Greater Accra.

He also called on the government to declare a state of emergency and urged the formation of a bipartisan team of engineers and hydrologists to develop long-term solutions.

As the capital braces for forecasts of more rainfall in the coming days, Dr. Bawumia extended his thoughts and prayers to all grieving families, saying, “May the good lord comfort every grieving family, strengthen every affected community and guide us as we work together to rebuild. We will recover together”.
