“You’re Commander General for Peace” – New Army Boss to Asantehene

The incoming General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command, Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, has described Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, as the “Commander General for peace” in Asanteman.

Speaking during a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, July 24, 2026, Brig. Gen. Amanor assured His Majesty of his commitment to upholding the Command’s mission under his leadership.

He emphasised that the Central Command would deliver on its mandate through close collaboration with the Palace.

Seeking the King’s blessings ahead of his tenure, the incoming GOC said he would rely on Otumfuo’s counsel in the discharge of his duties. “I am here to assure you that the mission of the Central Command will not change under my leadership. We will continue to be the sentinel of social order and guarantor of security in your kingdom,” he stated.

He added: “This we are going to do with your support. I am here to seek your blessings. I also know you play a major role in peace-building, and so I may be the GOC, but you are the Commander General for peace. I will run to you whenever I need your counsel. I assure you that I will step into the shoes of my senior officer and do whatever is possible for peace in your kingdom.”

Welcoming the new GOC, Otumfuo said his doors are always open to him and encouraged him to live up to expectations.
