Alex Dadey Calls for New National Compact to Build Enduring Ghanaian Institutions

The Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Apau Dadey, has called for a new national compact in which government, the private sector, and the media collaborate to build enduring Ghanaian institutions capable of driving sustainable economic transformation.
Speaking at the launch of the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, where he was the guest speaker, Mr Dadey emphasized that while Ghana has many entrepreneurs, it needs more large, professionally managed businesses that can evolve into African and global champions.
The event celebrates three decades of the GJA Media Awards. KGL Group has served as headline sponsor for three consecutive years.
Entrepreneurial Success
Mr Dadey stressed that the ultimate measure of entrepreneurial success is building institutions that survive their founders. He called for strong corporate governance, succession planning, and disciplined reinvestment. “The media does not merely report the economy; it helps shape the culture in which the economy develops,” he stated.
He challenged journalists to investigate corporate wrongdoing while also highlighting legitimate Ghanaian businesses that innovate, create jobs, and expand internationally.

New Compact
He outlined a “new compact for national development,” assigning shared responsibilities. He urged government to embrace evidence-based policymaking and ensure policy consistency to create a predictable environment for long-term investment.
He called on the media to promote economic literacy, scrutinize policy, and hold both government and business accountable through ethical, solutions-oriented journalism.
Future GJA
Looking ahead, Mr Dadey envisioned a future where the 60th GJA Media Awards would celebrate Ghanaian companies that have become multinational corporations, having survived successive generations of ownership and management.
