Abronye remanded, to reappear in court on Friday

Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has been remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear in court on Friday, September 12.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed his arrest on Monday, September 8, citing “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.”

He was taken into custody earlier that day and remains in detention.

Although the Police have not disclosed full details of the conduct that led to his arrest, the case has attracted national attention due to Abronye’s political profile.

He currently serves as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is known for his outspoken political commentary.

His arrest follows a series of recent developments, including his filing for political asylum in eight countries—the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire. In his applications, Abronye alleged political persecution and threats to his life, accusing the government of misusing state security agencies for political gain.

As part of investigations, police also reportedly searched the home of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor on Sunday, but Abronye was not found at the time.

The case is set to continue on Friday as the court hears the charges and determines the next steps.
