I Ignored Intel Not to Go to Bawku IGP tells Otumfuo

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has broken his silence on what happened to him at Bawku recently.
During a courtesy call to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace on Friday, May 9, he revealed that he received intelligence advising against his travel to Bawku, but he chose to ignore the warning.
On April 11, 2025, IGP Yohuno narrowly escaped harm when unidentified gunmen allegedly fired at his official vehicle following a visit to the Bawku Naba’s Palace.
“When I got to Bolgatanga, the intelligence I got was that it will be difficult for me to enter Bawku. I said my men are already there so how can I end my journey in Bolga and what was I going to tell my other colleagues there. So I persevered with my team and went,” he told the King who is mediating the Bawku conflict.
Meeting Bawku Naba
During his time in Bawku, Yohuno said he engaged with the Bawku Naba regarding the need for peace.
He said he urged him to encourage his people to exercise restraint, acknowledging that as security personnel, they might make mistakes in their line of duty.
“I also spoke to the youth about this,” he stated.
Gratitude
The IGP expressed his gratitude to Otumfuo for his ongoing efforts to restore peace in Bawku.
“We are very grateful for your contributions toward resolving this conflict and fostering peace in Bawku. All security agencies appreciate your intervention,” he stated.
