Government outlines activities for 68th Independence Day

The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has completed preparations for Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary, detailing a lineup of events to commemorate the occasion.
In a press statement on Sunday (23 February 2025), the celebration will begin with the commemoration of the 28th of February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday (28 February 2025).
Other key events include the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on 2nd March, a nationwide debate competition on 4th March, the President’s school children awards program on the 5th of March, and a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on 6th March 2025.
In preparation for the 28th of February Wreath Laying Ceremony, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will roll out an information and educational campaign across television, radio, and social media.
This initiative aims to reignite public interest, particularly among the youth, in recognizing and honoring national heroes.
As part of this effort, historical content on the February 1948 shooting of three ex-servicemen will be shared. Additionally, an X-space conversation on the theme “Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present” will be hosted.
The media is encouraged to facilitate discussions to promote the 68th Independence Day celebration, while the public, including bloggers, are urged to actively engage by sharing information.
The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Nationalism Park at 8 a.m. on Friday (28 February 2025) and will be broadcast live across multiple platforms.
The NCPC assures the public of further updates on the remaining activities as the nation prepares to mark this significant milestone.
