NAPO Honours Prof. Mills With Memorial House & Library At Ekumfi Otuam
The NPP vice presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has honoured the late President John Evans Atta Mills with a befitting Memorial House and a Library at his hometown, Ekumfi-Otuam in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central Region.
The project, which is almost complete, is being supervised by Koku Anyidoho, the CEO of the Atta Mills Institute.
Situated close to the family house of the late President, the project will serve as a lasting tribute to the ideals and enduring legacy Prof. Mills, who was the 3rd President of the 4th Republic.
On Thursday, November 21, 2024, Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, undertook a pre-inauguration inspection of the project.
He was accompanied by the Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ekumfi, Stelfa Nana Adu Donkor Okumkom, and Mr Anyidoho.
Funding
At a brief ceremony at the forecourt of the family house, NAPO said the decision to fund and construct the edifice reflects his long-held view of the need to honour statesmen who have selflessly dedicated their lives to the service of Ghana. “Honouring national heroes like the late President is a duty of all well-meaning citizens, and that, the life that was lived by President Mills deserves to be studied by all and his legacies protected,” he said.
Relationship
NAPO added: “The late President was a man I had so much respect for. Our relationship transcended the realm of politics, rooted in mutual admiration and a shared commitment to Ghana’s progress, as far back as my university days even when I spent my holidays with a grand uncle who was a friend to the then Dr Atta Mills”.
He said President Atta Mills’ character, distinct even within his own political tradition, was a shining example of humility and integrity. “Fondly remembered as a ‘man of peace’, his calm demeanor and reconciliatory spirit resonated deeply with Ghanaians across the nation. To see this memorial come to life in his honour brings me profound fulfillment and joy,” the NPP vice presidential candidate stated,
Gratitude
He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the family of the late President, as well as the chiefs and people of Otuam, for their warm reception and expressions of gratitude during his visit.
He also offered his warmest congratulations to the Atta Mills Institute, led by Koku Anyidoho, for their dedication and exemplary leadership in bringing the monumental project to fruition.
NDC abandoned Mills
The head of the Mills family, Kwabena Biney, was deeply disappointed that apart from Mr Anyidoho and few others, the people who worked closely with President Mills, especially leading members of the NDC including former President John Dramani Mahama have not thought of honouring the late President.
NAPO hailed
The Kyidomhemaa of Ekumfi Asaman and queen mother of the Odumnaa family, Nana Eniffua III expressed the family’s gratitude to NAPO for honouring their departed son, and also thanked Mr Anyidoho for his untiring support to the family.
Koku condemns Mahama, NDC
Mr Anyidoho took a serious view about the disrespect John Mahama and the NDC have shown the late Mills even though Mahama was the biggest beneficiary of President Mills’ mysterious death.
He said he ( Koku) had to take it upon himself to lobby the government of President Akufo-Addo to give a befitting refurbishment to the Asomdwe Park, which is the final resting place of the late President.
