Asantehene’s wife, Lady Julia celebrated on 55th birthday

A festival of nine lessons and carols was held at the private residence of the Asantehene in Kumasi last night in honour of his wife, Lady Julia, on the occasion of her 55th birthday.

In attendance was Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. The couple , who were in white joined the choir in singing praises to God.

Lady Julia was joined by family members to cut the birthday cake amidst the singing of the traditional ‘Happy birthday to you “ song.

More celebrations

Besides the event, many Ghanaians took to social media to celebrate the woman who has been an incredible partner of the King.

On Facebook, X ( formerly twitter) and other social media platforms, there were loads of congratulatory messages extolling her for being a woman of substance, contributing to the many successes the monarch has achieved in his reign.

Your presence uplifts the spirit of the Asanteman, and embodies the strength and beauty that defines our heritage. John J. Yeboah said, “Happy Gracious Birthday to our grandma. The first lady of my tribe. May you live forever.”

Born Julia Ama Adwapa Amaning, the Asantehene’s wife is the last of five children born to Mr. Stephen A. Amaning, a retired career diplomat and Mrs. Ernestina A. Amaning.

Lady Julia and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II married in April 2002. She is of the House of Oyoko Dynasty (by marriage). A daughter of Akyem Abuakwa in the Eastern Region.

Lady Julia had her basic education in London, Accra and in Berne, Switzerland until 1982, after which she entered Wesley Girls’ High School in Cape Coast for her Secondary School education, where she obtained her ‘O’ Level Certificate in 1986 and ‘A’ Level Certificate in 1988.

In 1989, Lady Julia entered the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana, Legon and obtained a Bachelor of Law Degree with honours, LL.B. (Hons.) in 1992. She continued her law studies at the Ghana School of Law, Accra where she completed the Professional Law Course and was called to the Ghana Bar in 1994.

On completion of the Professional Law Course, she served as a Teaching Assistant in International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana for a year and also undertook private practice at the Law Offices of Agyemang and Associates=, a law firm in Accra.

In September 1995, Lady Julia Osei Tutu was admitted for post graduate studies at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Humanitarian Law after which she served as an Intern with Amnesty International’s United Nations Office in New York.

In 1998, she returned to Ghana and joined Ecobank Ghana Limited as Head of Legal/Corporate Affairs.

The King’s wife has been the pillar of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation (OOCTF) where she chairs the Board of Trustees.

She also heads the Serwaa Ampem Foundation for Children.
