NPP opens presidential nominations today; Aspirants to pay GH₵50,000

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) today, Thursday, May 26 takes a major step towards the 2024 general elections when it opens nominations for its presidential primary today.

It will precede a Special Electoral College Elections ( if any) on Saturday, August 26, 2023, and the National Congress to elect the presidential candidate on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Requirements
In a statement issued by the party on Wednesday, May 25, it said to obtain a nomination form, an aspirant is required to pay a non-refundable fee of GH₵50,000.00 through a Bankers Draft issued to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.

Signed by the party General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the statement said the nomination process will close on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

It said aspiring presidential candidates could obtain nomination forms from the Office of the General Secretary at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra. The forms will be available from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Free and fair polls
The party said it aims to conduct a free, fair, transparent and peaceful presidential primary. It called on all stakeholders to contribute to the process and help uphold the party’s principles of fairness and integrity.

Potential aspirants
Already 9 party stalwarts have publicly indicated their intention to contest the presidential primary and are expected to pick nomination forms.

They include the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; a former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen; the MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; a former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, and a former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko.

The rest are a former Minster for Railway Development, Joe Ghartey; a former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong; a former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh, and a former Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, Kofi Konadu Apraku.
