KGL Inter-Regional Under-17 Colts Championship Attracts FIFA Officials
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and some officials of FIFA last Tuesday, watched the ongoing KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, aat the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram.
The FIFA officials were the association’s High Performance expert, Cayl Coetzee and FIFA Scout expert Laban Scott Libby.
They witnessed two entertaining Group A games involving Northern Region and Ashanti Region as well as Central and Brong Ahafo Regions.
Simeon-Okraku has placed youth football and the Catch Them Young Refereeing policy, among several inviting initiatives, at the centre of the GFA’s development strategy.
The 12-day championship, runs till Thursday August 8, 2024.
Funding
With funding from KGL Foundation over the past four years, the GFA has maintained its resolve and focus on identifying, developing and training young talented teenagers for Ghana’s youth national teams.
The talent identification championship, which is in its fourth year, has served as the platform for unearthing hidden talents for the next generation of football stars who will largely form the nucleus of the various youth national teams.
Background
The KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship, launched in 2021, has been an avenue for talent discovery for clubs, particularly Premier and Division One League clubs, with several players being beneficiaries of the esteemed competition.
