GoldBod under scrutiny as minority files motion for full parliamentary probe

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has filed a motion for a bipartisan parliamentary probe into the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the controversial Gold-for-Reserves (G4R) programme, citing significant financial losses and governance concerns.

The notice of motion, filed on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, under Article 103 of the 1992 Constitution and several Standing Orders, seeks to establish an Ad Hoc Committee to investigate the design, implementation, financial performance, and environmental implications of the scheme.

The filing follows revelations of substantial losses linked to the programme. The motion was submitted by a group of senior Minority MPs, including Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (MP for Ofoase Ayirebi and Ranking Member of the Committee on Economy; Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo, MP for Manso Nkwanta; Jerry Ahmed Shaib, MP for Welja-Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Whip; and Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo.

Scope
The proposed Ad Hoc Committee would investigate, among other matters, foreign exchange losses sustained by the Bank of Ghana, the roles of relevant state institutions, supply-chain traceability systems, and the risk of acquiring illegally sourced gold.
