Saturday’s NPP flag bearer election: Survey gives Bawumia not less than 75%: Delegates say he’s best to lead party to ‘break the 8’

Lead contender in the New Patriotic Party ( NPP) flag bearer contest, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is set to win Saturday’s presidential primary convincingly.

A survey by The Thunder reveals that the 60-year-old economist will poll not less than 75% of the valid votes cast.

Assin North MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong will come a distant second with between 15% and 20 % of the ballots while immediate past Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and a former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimo share the remaining votes.

Basis

The factors that accounted for the outcome of the survey include the potency of messages of the candidates, general compartment, unity of party, and acceptability of the candidates by the wider Ghanaian electorate.

It came out that Dr Bawumian is seen by the delegates as the best man to lead the NPP to break the 8 year election cycle between the party and the NDC.

His vision is seen as the best for the party, and the nation.

In addition, he is recognised as the best man to unite the party ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Regional breakdown

Our survey indicated that the Vice President will win in all the 275 constituencies in the 16 regions.

His strongest showings will be in the five regions of the north and Ashanti Region where his support base is very huge .

With many of the supporters of Alan Kyerematen having shifted to the camp of the Vice President following the resignation of the former Trade Minister from the NPP and his resultant pull out from the race, Dr Bawumia has strengthened his position to win big on Saturday.

Kennedy’s best

Kennedy is expected to get his best results in his home region – Central – and the Ahafo Region.

In the Super Delegates Conference which the Assin North legislator came second, the two regions gave him his largest number of votes as far as the regional votes were concerned.

He polled 19 votes in the Central Region and 10 votes in the Ahafo Region while his poorest showing was in North East Region where he had no vote.

Also at the NPP headquarters, he polled 32 votes, while at the YMCA Centre in Accra, he garnered 15 votes.

Home stretch

Campaigning for the election has reached the home stretch, with the candidates pushing through strongly in various parts of the country.

But, it is clear that Dr Bawumia is way ahead of his opponents looking at the massive reception he is receiving especially in the northern parts of the country.

More than 200,000 delegates of the NPP will elect a flag bearer of the party for the 2024 General Elections.
