Otumfuo grants audience to former Botswana President Ian Khama

A former President of Botswana, Seretse Khama Ian Khama, paid a courtesy visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

After the initial courtesies, the King entered into a private meeting with his guest. Mr Seretse Khama, the 4th president of Botswana, was accompanied to the Manhyia Palace by two of his aides.

The 71-year-old was in Ghana to attend the Pan African Heritage Museum fundraising gala dinner in Accra .

Brief profile
Born to a British mother and a Motswana father, Ian Khama, served as Vice President when Festus Mogae ruled Botswana from 1998 to 2008. He took over as President when Mogae resigned in 2008 ahead of the presidential elections.

A son of Botswana’s first president, he served in the military service of his country from 1977 to 1998 and attained the rank of Lieutenant General.
