Bloody ‘Good Friday’ at Sampa: 3 shot dead, several others injured in chieftaincy clashes

Three persons have been killed and many others injured in clashes involving factions in a chieftaincy dispute at Sampa in the Bono Region on Good Friday.

Solomon Owusu, the Jaman North District Chief Executive (DCE) confirmed the incident and said the injured were at the Sampa Hospital and the Berekum Holy Family Hospital.

The Thunder gathered that last Friday’s bloody disturbances were rooted in disagreement over which of the factions had the right to collect revenue from cashew dealers in the community.
The DCE said security has been beefed up in the town.

Background
The Sampa chieftaincy dispute went before the Asanteman Council and the resolution led to the enstoolment of Nana Samgba Gyafla II as Omanhene by the kingmakers. He later swore the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene.

However, the faction that lost the case at Manhyia refused to recognize the ruling and also installed one Nana Sammor Duah as Omanhene. Since then, there has been tension in the town.
