Yagbonwura Hails Otumfuo as “King of Peace” as Gonja-Asante Ties Strengthen; Otumfuo Announces Reciprocal Visit to Gonjaland

The Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewusoale I has lauded Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a true king of peace, praising the Asantehene for his unwavering love and hospitality toward all people regardless of their background.

Speaking through his spokesperson during a courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, July 1, to celebrate Awukudae, the Yagbonwura said the visit itself was a reflection of his deep desire to promote unity and stronger collaboration with the Asante Kingdom in preserving their ancient kingship institutions. “This visit reflects my desire in promoting unity and stronger collaboration with the Asante Kingdom in keeping our ancient kingship,” he stated.

Counsel for President Mahama
Beyond the peace advocacy, the Yagbonwura expressed profound gratitude to Otumfuo for the wise counsel he continues to offer President John Dramani Mahama. Describing the President as “his own son,” the Gonja king noted that Mahama has enjoyed tremendous support from the Asantehene and urged him to sustain that relationship for the success of the President’s tenure.

“We want you to continue that relationship and know that you will continue with that support for him to have a successful tenure.

“The wisdom that Nana has given him, he himself has said there won’t be a third term,” the Yagbonwura stated.
He also called on Otumfuo to support the President in pushing for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade.

Reciprocal visit
In response, Otumfuo, speaking through the Mamponghene, announced plans for a reciprocal visit to Gonjaland, further cementing the growing bond between the two traditional kingdoms.
