Mahama Has No Third-Term Ambition — Kwakye Ofosu

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, has firmly rejected opposition claims that President John Dramani Mahama intends to seek a third term, labeling the allegations as “unfounded” and an “absurd fantasy.”
The comments come in response to claims made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which suggested the President has a hidden plan to circumvent the constitutional two-term limit.
The NPP cited social media calls from some NDC supporters urging Mahama to remain in office beyond two terms as evidence of this agenda.
Respect constitution
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed the claims outright. He stated, “President Mahama has stated emphatically that he will respect the Ghanaian Constitution. Because he’s a consummate democrat, so there’s no third term anywhere for him or any other person as far as the constitution is concerned.”
He emphasized that the President himself has expressed no interest in such a move.
Inconsequential
The Minister argued that unsolicited social media endorsements do not translate to official intent. “Anyone can say what they want. The fact that some people have gone on Facebook to say he should go for a third term doesn’t mean that will happen,” he clarified.
Waste of time
Kwakye Ofosu urged the opposition to stop what he called “needless speculation.”
He concluded, “So NPP should stop wasting their time and everybody’s time… The President has not expressed any intent. Any talk about it is a complete waste of everybody’s time.”
