Peace Council Praises Asantehene’s Decisive Leadership in Bawku Peace Process

The National Peace Council (NPC) has praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his decisive leadership in mediating the long-standing chieftaincy conflict in Bawku. They described his intervention as a significant step toward ending decades of violence in the area.

Final mediation
With final mediation sessions scheduled for November 30 and December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace, the Council expressed optimism that the multi-stage process led by the Asantehene is approaching a breakthrough. The NPC believes that the structured engagement directed by Otumfuo presents the most credible path to achieving lasting peace in this conflict-prone municipality.

Cooperation
In a statement issued on Saturday, November 22, the Council commended both the Kusasi and Mamprusi factions for their cooperation during the separate and joint meetings held so far. They urged the parties to maintain their calm demeanor and openness as the process enters its most crucial phase.

According to the NPC, resolving the traditional and chieftaincy disputes that have fuelled years of deadly clashes, displaced families, and destroyed livelihoods in Bawku would represent a significant milestone for national peace and cohesion.

The Council emphasized that a final settlement would not only save lives but also enhance Ghana’s reputation for resolving complex conflicts peacefully.

Satisfaction
Expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far, the Council appealed to both factions to remain committed to the mediation process and provide the necessary support to the Otumfuo Committee to secure a lasting resolution.
