Galamsey Fight Not Easy – President Mahama Admits

President John Dramani Mahama has admitted that the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) is not an easy task.
Speaking during a meeting with the Council of State at the Jubilee House in Accra on Monday, he described galamsey as a “very complex” issue requiring intensified efforts to resolve.
“There are many issues to discuss, and one of them is illegal mining. It is a very complex fight, and as the Minister of Lands may have informed you, it is not easy,” President Mahama said.
He added: “Just this morning, I summoned all stakeholders in the anti-galamsey effort to my office to streamline their activities. Currently, everyone is acting independently without coordination.”
Illegal taskforces
The President noted that the complexity of the galamsey crisis has led to the emergence of illegal taskforces, which operate under the guise of combating illegal mining.
“The situation has given rise to unauthorized taskforces taking advantage of the chaos. We held a productive meeting and are now working to bring order to the process,” he explained.
To address the issue, the government plans to regulate the activities of illegal mining taskforces operating in mining regions across the country.
