Bawumia Shakes Tamale

Thousands of people, comprising various organised groups, poured out to welcome the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as he began his tour of the Northern Region on Thursday, May 16.

His vehicle was met at the outskirts of the city by hundreds of young people on motorbikes, who led him on a slow movement to begin activities for the day.

Meetings
Accompanied by some members of his campaign team as well as party officials in the region, the flagbearer had separate sessions with church leaders, pastors, imams, and traditional leaders.

The meetings deliberated on Ghana’s progress, and also afforded Dr. Bawumia to share his vision for Ghana to the eminent chiefs and clergy and asked for their blessings.

Expenditure Cut
At a meeting with the clergy, Dr. Bawumia promised to cut down the size of his government and expenditure by at least GHc30 billion if elected President. “I have made it clear and even stated that I want to bring down government expenditure and the size of government by at least 3 percent of GDP, which is about GHc 30 billion over the next four years and I have also made it clear that I will have not more than 50 ministers, which is also to say I want to bring the size of government down,” he stated.

No LGBTQ
Dr. Bawumia also reiterated his resolve not to permit the activities of LGBTQ in the country if he is elected President. “On this matter of LGBTQ, I want to say again without any equivocation that we will not allow it in Ghana. It is not going to be allowed. Our Bible says no, our Quran says no, and our people say no. So no. That is the answer,” he told the clergy.

He added, “No man will be marrying a man, no woman will be marrying a woman. It is not our value. And I will stand firm no matter the consequences. We will stand firm on that matter no matter the consequences. We will safeguard our country and we will safeguard our people.”

Ya-Naa’s Commendation
At a meeting with the Northern Regional House of Chiefs, the Ya-Naa Abukari II, who is the President of the House, commended Dr. Bawumia for his deep interest in the development of the region.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Ya-Naa said, “We feel and appreciate the impact your government has made in the last seven years of good governance, working to improve the living conditions of our people…We value your efforts, notably the peace and monumental projects in the Region. May Allah grant you the opportunity to serve in the highest office of the land.”
