Ashanti Region leads in voter registration figures; 44,232 captured in 6 days
Ashanti Region recorded the highest number of registered voters for the first six days of the Limited Voter Registration exercise.
A regional breakdown of the registration figures provided by the Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, at a news conference in Accra on Monday, May 13, showed that Ashanti Region recorded 44, 232, representing 17.6%.
The Accra Accra Region is in second place with 33,899, representing 13.5%, with Central 27, 984, 11.1% in 3rd place, and Eastern 25, 625, representing 10.2% in 4th place.
Others are Northern Region, 19,491 representing 7.8%; Western 15,100, 6.0%; Volta 12, 190, 4.9%; Upper East 10,646, representing 4.2%; Bono East Region 9,681, 3.9%; Bono Region 8,972, 3.6%; Upper West 8,474 representing 3.4%; Western North 9, 134, 3.3%; Oti 7,259 2.9%; North East, 6,928, representing 2.8%; Ahafo 6, 273, 2.4%; and Savannah 5, 261, 2.1%. The national total is 251, 149.
Rectification Of Errors
Earlier in the day, the EC rectified the daily voter registration figures. “The Electoral Commission has noted some mistakes in the daily voter registration figures earlier published. The mistakes appeared in the total registered figures stated for days two and three although the individual regional figures were accurate, while the day three figure for Upper East was repeated for day four. All these have been corrected,” a statement issued by the commission said.
Background
The registration exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, May 7, targets first-time voters and those who wish to obtain a voter card. The 21-day exercise is scheduled to end on May 27, 2024.
The EC says 623,000 first-time voters are expected to be added to the voters register at the end of the exercise.
