University of Ghana, UCC to confer honorary doctorates on Otumfuo

The University of Ghana and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) will confer Honourary Doctorate Degrees on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as part of activities marking the 25th anniversary of his enthronement.
The dates for the events are yet to be announced.

Appreciation
At the Asanteman Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, March, 11, 2024, the Asantehene commended the anniversary planning committee for the good work they are doing. The commendation came after the Chairman of the Committee, Juabenhene Nana Otuo Siriboe II, had mentioned the commitment put into the planning by members of the committee.

Previous honours
A number of universities have conferred honorary doctorates on the King since ascended the Golden Stool.
They include University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), University of West Indies, Bridgetown Barbados, London Metropolitan University, University of Maryland in Eastern shore, and Savana State University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Other activities
Other activities slated for the Silver Jubilee include the commissioning of a multi-purpose auditorium constructed by His Majesty at the Manhyia Palace on March 26, clean-up exercises in all parts of Asanteman on March 30, launch of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competition dubbed Otumfuo STEM Festival on April 15, durbar of fetish priests and priestesses on April 21, and durbar of ethnic groups living in Asanteman on April 24.

The rest are fireworks at seven designated venues including Cultural Centre, Heroes Park, Manhyia, Tafo, Jubilee Park, Aboabo Post Office, and Adum on the eve of April 26, which will mark exactly 25 years since Otumfuo ascended the Golden Stool; non-denominational thanksgiving service at the Dwabrem of the Manhyia Palace in the morning of April 26 and an anniversary dinner at the residence of the King in the evening of the day; photo and video exhibition on the reign of the King in April; thanksgiving service, dinner and choral musical concert on May 6 to mark the 74th birthday of the King; four-day programme by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in honour of Otumfuo who is the Chancellor of the University from May 7-10; and 25th Anniversary durbar at Dwanrem of the Manhyia Palace on May 12.
