Diplomatic Community, Corporate Ghana Celebrate Otumfuo At Royal Banquet
The diplomatic community and Corporate Ghana, last Saturday night, celebrated the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at a banquet he hosted for them.
The event held at the recently inaugurated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall at the Manhyia Palace on the eve of his 25th enthronement anniversary climax, was heavily attended. There were live musical performances by the Mesduah Band and Akwaboa Junior.
Attendance
In attendance were Otumfuo and his wife, Lady Julia; President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and wife Samira Bawumia; former President John Agyekum Kufuor; Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Keith Rowley, and wife, Sharon Rowley; the Awoamefia of Anlo State, Togbui Sri III ; the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Akosua Frema Osei Opare; and Asanteman traditional authorities.
Corporate Ghana Message
Speakers extended felicitations to the King. Speaking on behalf of Corporate Ghana, the Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Dadey, described Otumfuo as a “stabilising force and a mentor to many businesses. He has been a great leader and corporate Ghana looks up to him as a stabilising force,” he stated.
The KGL Executive Chairman said the company has collaborated with His Majesty on the Otumfuo commemorative gold coin and a few other initiatives.
Diplomatic Community Message
Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic community, the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, congratulated Otumfuo on his achievements over the past 25 years and wished him well in the next 25 years and beyond.
Democracy
In a statement, the Asantehene noted that democracy can best thrive when it corresponds with the indigenous traditions and culture of the people. “Sometimes, I marvel at what our culture offers us and wonder why we fail to appreciate fully what it means to us. Along our journey of the last quarter of a century, I have tried to assure the world that Ghana’s democracy is safe as long as it works in harmony with our traditions,” he said.
He added: “This is not just for the symbolism. It underscores enduring respect for our culture and its capacity to subsume personal interest to the common good.”
Phenomenal reign
The Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, described the 25 years of Otumfuo as phenomenal.
