Bawumia commissions Siriboe agribusiness school at Juaben

The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, commissioned the Siriboe Institute of Agribusiness and Skills Development at Juaben in the Ashanti Region.

The project is an initiative of Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe, the 2022 National Best Farmer. He established it with his prize money of 1 million Ghana Cedis for winning the 2022 National Best Farmer Award, and resources from his farm (Siriboe Farms) and his personal savings.

Facilities
The 700-seater facility has spaces for formal lectures, demonstrations and workshops, a creche for young mothers to enable them gain knowledge without sacrificing their maternal obligations, a cafeteria and practical demonstration farm.

The school is part of the efforts of Nana Sarpong Siriboe who is also the Akyempimhene of Juaben in the Ashanti Region, to entice the youth to agriculture as a business venture. Located in the farm of the 2022 National Best Farmer, the school will be a demonstration site for hands-on practical training for students.

Emerging technologies
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Bawumia stated that the future of agriculture is no more about simple farming tools.  He explained that the emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, internet of things, among others are now the way to go to make agriculture smart in conformity with the 4th Industrial Revolution. “This is one of the ways to make agriculture attractive to this new generation so we should align,” he said.
