Gyan blasts Kotoko fans …describes them as hypocrites

Striker Asamoah Gyan was not happy at the just ended Ghana Premiere League match that ensured between his side Legon Cities and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to reports, fans of Kotoko hooted at him when he came off the bench to replace Hans Kwofie in the game that saw his side lose 0-1 loss last Saturday.

Speaking in the post-match conference about the incident, Gyan pulled no punches and called the Kotoko fans out for what he described as hypocrisy.

“There is only one Asamoah Gyan. They [the fans] can boo, they know they are hypocrites but they know there is only one Asamoah Gyan. There is only one Asamoah Gyan, they can say I am arrogant, I will be arrogant because they know the hard truth. I’m just here to help my team. They should even be thankful I’m in the league. So it is what it is” he said.

Gyan’s relationship with Asante Kotoko fans has soured after the club’s failed attempt to sign him last year. The deal wasn’t successful after Kotoko reportedly balked at the $1million fee demanded by Gyan’s representatives.

Gyan has endured a difficult return to the Ghana Premier League since signing for the Royals in November 2020. He is yet to start a Premier League game or contribute a goal or an assist.
