Napo honoured in Trinidad & Tobago for outstanding leadership

Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has received the prestigious International Leadership award from the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), Trinidad chapter.  The award was in recognition of the Minister’s outstanding leadership, which he had demonstrated for the benefit of humanity.

The presentation took place at the Cara Hotel, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Also honoured at the event were the Chief Director of the ministry, Wilhelmina Asamoah and the Director, Legal, Sarah Fafa Kpodo. The two were awarded for their hard work and contributions to the Civil Service.

Diligent service
Presenting the award to the Energy Minister, the Chairman of SMRP Trinidad chapter, Kuarlal Rampersad recounted Dr Prempeh’s excellent human relations serving diligently at the Ministry of Education and transferring an even stronger energy to the ministry of Energy where he has been credited for keeping the lights on and the nation moving at a time where many countries have encountered greater difficulties.

Gratitude
In his acceptance speech, Dr Prempeh popularly known as Napo, said he came to the role of Energy Minister understanding clearly the expectations of Ghanaians, which is to ensure power stability and the availability of petroleum products and at affordable prices. “The feeling gets much more intense, thinking about the fact that, I have been a recipient of a number of awards from organizations of different persuasions. But then, I remind myself of the many counsels of my father, uncles and in fact, all those who contributed to my upbringing that hard work breaks no bone. I am very much humbled for this honour,’ he said

National Energy Skills Centre
In a related development the energy sector delegation that visited Trinidad and Tobago , toured the National Energy Skills Centre (NESC). The delegation led by the Energy Minister, went to facilities including the NESC Drilling Academy.

TVET
Dr Prempeh held the view that, there is the need for a deepened synergy between academia and industry with emphasis on Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET). “TVET continues to occupy a germane spot in the industrialization agenda of our country for which reason during my time as Minister for Education, so much work was done to transform this sector. As we work assiduously to develop Ghana’s hydrocarbon and other energy resources, we remain committed to forging the necessary partnerships with experienced countries like Trinidad and Tobago for the economic prosperity of our country,” he stated.
