Dr. Bawumia cuts sod for Tema motorway roundabout phase 2 project
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has cut the sword to commence work for the improvement of the Tema Motorway Roundabout Phase two.
The about 27 million dollar project when completed will help improve traffic flow on the Tema Motorway and its environs. The project sees the construction of a 2.1-kilometer three-lane Dual carriageway with 190-meter underpads on the N1 on the Accra-Tema motorway through to the Aflao road among others.
It will also cover the Tema Beach road. Vice President Bawumia said the phase two when completed will bring to 12, the total number of interchanges government has and is completing in the country.
He charged the Ministry of Roads and Highways to ensure the successful completion of the project.
The phase one of the Tema Motorway roundabout which was completed in 2020 saw the construction of a 2.1-kilometer three-lane Dual carriageway with a 190m underpass on the National route N1. It also had the improvement of about 1.9km two-lane dual carriageway between the Harbour and Akosombo roads among others.
The phase two project which is independent of the first phase is expected to complement the phase one with the construction of bridge and ramps and ancillary road works among others. Vice President Bawumia said is committed to
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta gives details of the project. He appealed to road users to bear with the contractors as government works to improve road networks in the country.
Chief Representative of JICA, Arachi Yasumichi said the project will be completed in 2024 and will accelerate development among the neighboring countries as it is part of the Eastern Corridor roads. He charged the Ministry to ensure that the project is completed on time.
In an opening remark, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey said the project has come at an opportune time and will help reduce traffic on that stretch when completed. The project is expected to be completed in 30 months.
