The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Abukari II, has credited the Asantehene , Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for the peace being enjoyed in the Dagbon Kingdom.
In a message delivered through the Dagomba community in Ashanti Region to Otumfuo during the celebration of the 6th Awukudae at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Ya-Na Abukari II said, “ If there is peace in Dagbon today, then it is through Otumfuo.”
Last Wednesday’s Awukudae festival at the Manhyia Palace was celebrated together with the Dagbon community in the Ashanti Region.
Ya-Na Abukari II was enskined on January 25, 2019 after the committee of eminent chiefs headed by Otumfuo settled 16 years chieftaincy dispute etween the feuding gates, Andanis and Abudus.
Emphasizing how refreshing it is to have peace in his Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II stated, “Now there is no trouble in Dagbon and Dagbon is at peace with itself and looking up to accelerated development.” He said the peace prevailing between the Abudus and Andanis in the Dagbon kingdom should be replicated in the Dagomba community in Kumasi.
Otumfuo commends Ya-Na
Responding, the Asantehene applauded Ya-Na for his approach to dispute resolution in his kingdom. He expressed delight that whenever there was a misunderstanding in the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na handled it with tact and diplomacy by setting up a committee to go into the matter.
Otumfuo said even though he lived in Kumasi, his eyes are always on Dagbon, adding that “I know peace will continue to reign in Dagbon.” He said he will continue to pray for Ya-Na to hold his Kingdom together .
The Dagbon community presented a citation to the Asantehene to show their appreciation to the tremendous efforts he put in to bring peace back to the Dagbon Kingdom.
It reads: “ The bond between the Asante Kingdom and Dagbon Kingdom indeed, has been age-old with several mutual benefits. “ “No wonder you were inspired by this bond to address and reunify Dagbon with a team of eminent chiefs when the entire Dagbon was in turmoil by ensuring we, the Dagomba, have Ya-Na Abukari II as the King of Dagbon.“
“What a priceless achievement this is to your credit. You are the King Solomon of our time and indeed it is against this background that we the Dagomba in the Ashanti Region presents this citation to your honour on behalf of all Dagomba in the world. Ayekoo, Nana for a wonderful job done. “
