Prempeh College honours former President Kufuor and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Prempeh College has honoured former President John Agyekum Kufuor and the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh for their immense contributions towards the progress of the school .

The school auditorium was named after Mr Kufuor while a House was named after Dr Opoku Prempeh at a ceremony held in the school on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Matthew Opoku Prempeh House
Hitherto called House 11, the students residential facility is now called Matthew Opoku Prempeh House.
Dr Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is an old student of Prempeh College and a grandson of the late Asantehene, Otumfuo Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, the founder of the school.

A former Headmaster of the School, Mr Arthur Clarke also had a house named after him.

Eulogy
Speakers at the ceremony eulogised Dr Opoku Prempeh for the personal role he has played in uplifting the image of the school. They urged him to continue to champion the development of Prempeh College.

Humbling moment
Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed appreciation to the authorities of the school for the honour done him. “It is a humbling moment that the authorities of my alma mater, Prempeh College have named after me, a house of the school today. “Incidentally, I shared the honour on the same day, with my paternal grand uncle and mentor, former President of the Republic, His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, also a Senior, who had an auditorium of the school named after him as John Agyekum Kufuor Auditorium. A former Headmaster of the School, Mr Arthur Clarke also had a house named after him as Arthur Clarke House.”

Impacting society
Whilst accepting the life time honour in acknowledgement of his modest contribution towards transforming the face of this college, Dr Opoku Prempeh reiterated his firm belief in making an impact in the society .
“After all, that is the essence of leadership; to be able to positively affect lives.”

Academic work
He also advised the current students to place much premium on their academic work as that is the key to realizing their dreams “and even proceeding to become better than some of us in the near future.”

He added: “For me, everything I have done and continue to do for Prempeh College is also in honour of my grandfather, Otumfuo Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II whose true intention for establishing the college was to promote education not only in the Asante Kingdom but the entire country. I cannot depart from this sacred duty.”

“I am eternally grateful to Prempeh College for this honour done me, accentuating the true meaning of the words of the hymnist in Methodist Hymn Book (MHB) number 896 “Now Praise We Great and Famous Men”.
He also congratulate President Kufuor and Mr Arthur Clarke, on the recognition accorded them.
