Chris Hughton rues absence of Tariq Lamptey
Black Stars Head Coach, Chris Hughton has bemoaned the absence of injured full-back, Tariq Lamptey in the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Angola.
The Brighton defender has been replaced by FC Cologne player, Kingsley Schindler for the match at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Lamptey has made 20 appearances for English club, Brighton this season under Roberto De Zerbi.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Angola match, Hughton said:
“Tariq Lamptey will be a big miss for us, but that is why we have a squad, we knew two weeks before he might not make it so we were ready for this”.
Tariq Lamptey has 4 caps for Ghana after featuring at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Black Stars Goalkeeper, Joseph Wollacott and centre back, Mohammed Salisu have been hit with injury concerns.
The goal post fell on the Charlton Athletic shot stopper during training, whilst the Southampton defender, who lasted 83 minutes against Tottenham in his last Premier League match, has had to struggle with a knock.
“Jojo Wollacott is fine, there was fake post made to impersonate him, it was unfortunate but he is fine. Salisu is the only injury concern, he has had some issues over the last few weeks which is why he has not played as much over the last few weeks so we might have to consider his participation.”
The Black Stars are joint-top of Group E with Angola in the qualifiers.
