Okuapehene Leads Okuapeman to Celebrate 200 Years of Odwira
Akropong-Akuapem came alive on Friday, September 25, 2026, as the Okuapeman climaxed its historic 200th anniversary celebration of the Odwira Festival with a full day of cultural and entertainment events.
The day’s activities reflected the bicentennial theme, “Honouring Our Heritage, Securing Our Future.”
Under the rich traditions of Okuapeman, the people gathered to pay homage to the Okuapehene, reaffirm their unity, and celebrate the enduring traditions that have connected generations.
The grand durbar was more than a gathering of chiefs. It was a moment where history met the present and hopes for the future were rekindled.
Unity
The Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, used the occasion to call for unity among Akuapem youth, urging them to champion peace following recent clashes between local senior high schools.
The festival commemorates the role Akuapem played in the victory at the Battle of Katamanso in 1826 and honours two centuries of heritage, purification, and thanksgiving.
Attendance
In attendance were former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo; the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin; traditional rulers from many parts of the country; prominent citizens of Akuapem, including Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group; government officials; and political party leaders.
