Otumfuo’s Investment Propels Manhyia Palace Museum to Top 5
Strategic investments by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II have catapulted the Manhyia Palace Museum to become Ghana’s 5th most visited tourist site, with 125,000 visitors recorded in 2025.
The museum now trails only the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park (331,068), Kakum National Park (233,098), Bunsu Arboretum (182,204), and Cape Coast Castle (138,204), according to Tourism Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie. It stands out as the only privately-run attraction among the top five.
Commitment
The King’s commitment to cultural revival included a major May 2024 reopening featuring refurbished galleries and a landmark exhibition of 32 royal artefacts repatriated from British museums.
The original building, constructed in 1925 for Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh I, was transformed from a historic relic into a premier destination, demonstrating how royal patronage and cultural diplomacy can rival state-funded heritage sites.
