Alleged Missing GHc 200M GoldBod Cash: Sammy Gyamfi fights Kofi Bentil

A war of words has erupted on social media between CEO Sammy Gyamfi and Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil.

The dispute began after Bentil questioned the circumstances surrounding a reported financial loss at the GoldBod, prompting a sharp rebuttal from Gyamfi that has since gone viral.

The controversy was ignited when Bentil, in a Facebook post, commented on an alleged incident involving a GHc 200 million loss. “GHc 200,000,000 is over $16 million dollars!! Sammy Gyamfi’s boy should never have been in a position to just run away with that. Any system which allows that possibility is not well run. How was this possible?” Bentil wrote, referencing an individual identified as Dominic Bonsu.

Response
However, Sammy Gyamfi responded swiftly and forcefully, disputing the narrative and questioning the credibility of Bentil’s source.

Taking to his own Facebook page, Gyamfi expressed disbelief that the post could genuinely be from the reputable lawyer he claims to know. “Folks please help me here. Is the attached post coming from a Facebook account owned by Kofi Bentil, the lawyer and Vice Chair of IMANI Africa????? I do not believe that the Kofi Bentil I know will be this gullible, naive and reckless,” Gyamfi wrote, setting a confrontational tone.

Details
Mr Gyamfi proceeded to issue a detailed rebuttal, outlining seven key points to debunk what he termed a “mischievous claim.”

He firmly denied that any money had been stolen from the GoldBod, stating, “No one has stolen or absconded with GHc200 million belonging to the GoldBod. Neither has the GoldBod lost any money.”

Addressing the personal connection alleged by Bentil, Gyamfi was emphatic, “I have never seen or met the said Dominic Bonsu, who is alleged to be my bodyguard. I have never at any time in my life had a bodyguard by name Dominic Bonsu.”

According to Gyamfi, Dominic Bonsu is the sole proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, a licensed Tier 2 gold buyer.

He clarified that the GoldBod has no direct financial dealings with Bonsu’s firm, as it only transacts directly with licensed Aggregators, all of whom are covered by Advance Payment Guarantees.

Legal troubles
Gyamfi explained that the legal troubles involving Bonsu stem from commercial dealings with an Aggregator, not the GoldBod. “The proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures has been arrested and remanded into custody by the High Court in connection with a complaint filed by his Aggregator counterparty,” he stated.

He added that the GoldBod is pursuing criminal proceedings against Bonsu for breaches of the GoldBod Act and has since suspended his license. “None of the licensed Aggregators of the GoldBod, of which Dominic Bonsu is not a part, owes the GoldBod money,” Gyamfi asserted.

The GoldBod boss stated, “If this post is truly coming from Kofi Bentil of IMANI Africa, then someone should please advise him that as a senior lawyer he ought to subject unverified social media information to basic due diligence before running with same. It will be highly disappointing and disgraceful if this mischievous claim is coming from him.”
