Armed Forces Tighten Security in Bawku as Otumfuo’s Mediation Nears End

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has heightened security operations in Bawku in anticipation of the final ruling from the Asantehene-led mediation, scheduled for November 30 to December 1, 2025.
Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, announced the enhanced measures during an operational visit to the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bawku on Tuesday, November 18.
Shift
While the town of Bawku has been relatively calm, Brigadier General Agbebo noted that violence has shifted to the surrounding Binduri area. His visit included an inspection of a new visibility checkpoint at Binduri, provided by the District Chief Executive, Martin Akudugu Ariku, and an assessment of soldier accommodation aimed at improving operational efficiency.

Housing
He emphasized that housing troops in strategic locations like the Binduri Community Day Secondary School not only facilitates quicker responses to security threats but also provides a direct sense of security for students and the local community.
Commitment
Brigadier General Agbebo reiterated GAF’s commitment to securing lasting peace in Bawku and its environs and called for continued collaboration with sister security services, particularly the Ghana Police Service.
