We didn’t leave a mismanaged economy for John Mahama – Hon. Abena Osei Asare

The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and former Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare, has dismissed allegations that the Akufo-Addo government mismanaged Ghana’s economy.
Speaking with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, November 10, Mrs. Osei Asare attributed Ghana’s economic performance during their tenure to sound management despite global shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.
Responding to claims by the Mahama administration that the economy was mismanaged under the Akufo-Addo government, she highlighted key economic indicators, including inflation and GDP growth.
“Every era and what really describes it, but in 2022, inflation was 54%, but when we were leaving office in 2024, we reduced it by 23.8%. We inherited a growth rate of 3.6% but we left it at 5.7%. In 2016, GDP was around 219 billion, and we reached 1 trillion GDP.
“And so, for no reason can anybody say that they inherited a mismanaged economy.”
She argued that these figures demonstrate prudent management and reject claims that the economy was in disarray during their administration.
