KGL Boss Defends NLA Partnership, Urges Media to Back Local Champions

The Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Alex Dadey has urged the media to promote public-private partnerships.

He expressed concern over the tendency to undermine indigenous enterprises, questioning, “Why do we celebrate successful foreign conglomerates while we disregard successful local champions?”

Speaking as the guest speaker at the launch of the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards in Accra on Thursday, October 9, Mr. Dadey stated, “We need an ecosystem where a start-up in Accra can realistically envision becoming a multi-billion-dollar entity capable of competing globally.”

Fourth Estate publication

Regarding a crecent Fourth Estate publication about the National Lotteries Authority (NLA)-KGL partnership, titled “NLA hands over GHc3 billion in private business in exchange for peanuts,” Mr. Dadey condemned irresponsible and sensational journalism.

“At KGL Group, we are focused on our vision of creating wealth responsibly and with the utmost integrity. We typically refrain from commenting on irresponsible media coverage, but we remain committed partners with the media in nation-building,” he said.

He explained that the collaboration with NLA began in 2019 with a modest revenue base of less than GHc60 million, with no profit for KGL. “For KGL to transform such humble beginnings into what is now a globally recognized Ghanaian enterprise is a testament to the strength, innovation, capacity, and technical excellence of the private sector. Turning a revenue base of about GHc60 million into over GHc3 billion in just three or four years is one of the most remarkable achievements any company in the world could accomplish. I can confidently say that, having worked in 20 countries for over 30 years, this is one of the fastest-growing companies I have ever encountered.”

Vision

He emphasized that this remarkable progress did not happen overnight and was not by chance. “It took vision, discipline, and years of unwavering commitment. What we have built is not a matter of luck but the result of relentless dedication and excellence.”

Mr. Dadey stated that the KGL Group remains unfazed by sensational narratives intended to undermine the achievements of indigenous enterprises.

“We understand that true success demands scrutiny, but let that scrutiny be based on truth, fairness, and ethical journalism. At its core, journalism was never meant to harm.”

GJA commended

He commended the GJA for its commitment to upholding professionalism in the media and assured that KGL will continue to support the GJA and the media community in promoting responsible journalism and safeguarding the integrity of the media profession for the unity and development of Ghana. “We recognize that a vibrant, independent press is the lifeblood of any thriving democracy, and its future must be protected through unity, resilience, and forward-thinking collaboration,” he stated.
