Baba Yara Stadium to Host Daddy Lumba’s Final Funeral Rites on December 6

The final funeral rites for the late Ghanaian music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have been officially scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

It will be recalled that a one-week observation was held on August 30, 2025, at the Independence Square (Black Star Square) in Accra, following his passing on July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital. The celebrated highlife icon was 60 years old. The earlier event, which drew massive crowds of fans, friends, and fellow musicians, ended without a confirmed date for his burial—until now.

In a post shared on Daddy Lumba’s official Facebook page and that of his radio station, DL FM, on Wednesday, October 8, a flier was released announcing the date and venue for the much-anticipated funeral ceremony.
According to the announcement, the burial ceremony will take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, a venue chosen to accommodate the expected large turnout of fans, family, and dignitaries who will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Ghana’s greatest musicians.

The ceremony is expected to attract thousands of mourners from across the country and beyond, just as his vigil and one-week observation did. Daddy Lumba, whose music spanned romantic ballads, inspirational tunes, gospel pieces, and dirges, left behind a rich catalogue that continues to influence Ghana’s music landscape.

This confirmation comes after weeks of public debate among fans and pundits over whether the funeral should be held in Accra or Kumasi. The final decision to hold the event in Kumasi reflects Lumba’s Ashanti heritage and the city’s deep connection to his musical journey.

Daddy Lumba’s funeral is expected to be one of the most attended and emotionally charged events in Ghana’s entertainment history, as fans prepare to bid farewell to a man whose songs defined generations.
