It’s a Shame!” – Journalist Erastus Asare Donkor Hits Back at Minister Amoakohene for Demanding Galamsey Proof

Journalist Erastus Asare Donkor has sharply reacted to Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene’s attempt to discredit his information regarding ongoing galamsey activities in the Offin River.
“It’s a shame,” Erastus declared during a banter on Facebook.
On Sunday, Erastus shared a post describing his observations about illegal mining in the Atwima Mponua district. He stated, “It’s a sad scene! In Ntoboroso, Nyinahini, within the Atwima Mponua District, mining is currently taking place in the Offin River. An informant was prevented from taking pictures. Why do we do this to ourselves?”
Amoakohene responds
In response, Dr. Amoakohene commented on Erastus’s post, urging the journalist to provide details about his informant or to report the situation to the nearest forestry office or police station.
He further implied that the informant may have misled the public.
Erastus hits back
Erastus was not satisfied with the minister’s response.
He emphasized that, as a journalist, he finds it shameful for a minister who has access to the BNI, the police, and daily reports from national security—to demand evidence from him. “From where I stand, I can see mining in the Offin, but he is asking for proof. That is a shame! Isn’t it?”
