The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched a major Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Initiative is for Psychosocial support for women and children affected by armed conflict in Plateau State, Nigeria.
The initiative, valued at ₦56 million, aims to promote peace, recovery, and resilience in conflict-affected communities such as Mangu, Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bassa.
A two-day workshop, held in Jos from 29–30 September 2025, was organized by the ECOWAS Department of Humanitarian Development and Social Affairs in partnership with GIZ, the Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA), and supported by the European Union and the Plateau State Government.
The program seeks to provide psychosocial support for children, establish a Plateau-specific HDP Coordination Mechanism, and enhance collaboration among humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding actors.
The effort emphasizes a gender-sensitive approach, prioritizing women and children while addressing the root causes of conflict and displacement.
