Asantehemaa’s funeral: Strictly comply with Manhyia Palace directives – Kumasi Mayor

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has appealed to traders and residents in the Ashanti Region to strictly comply with directives issued by the Manhyia Palace during the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, scheduled for Thursday, September 18.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 17, Mr. Boadi explained that while the rites would be open to the public during the day, restrictions would take effect in the evening as the spiritual aspects of the burial begin.

“In the day is a partial lockdown as you have perfectly described it. You can come to Manhyia Palace, you can come and bid your final farewell to Nanahemaa. Immediately the funeral service ends, head to your homes,” he said.

He further clarified that from 5 pm onwards, residents are expected to remain indoors as the spiritual journey of the final rites commences.

The funeral rituals, which began on Sunday, September 14, will climax on Thursday, September 18, at the Manhyia Palace.

As part of the arrangements, all shops and markets within Kumasi and some surrounding areas will remain closed, while residents are required to observe a complete restriction of movement from 5 pm until the burial is concluded.
