Akwatia By-Election: NDC’s Bernard Bediako Optimistic About Winning

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako, has expressed confidence in winning the constituency’s by-election scheduled for September 2, 2025.
The Electoral Commission declared the seat vacant following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi.
Speaking to journalists in Akwatia on Sunday, August 17, Mr. Bediako said the NDC was well-positioned to secure victory.
“We are moving through the towns and communities to spread our message. Today is a market day in Akwatia, and fortunately, our party office is close to the market. We are starting there to engage the people and help them understand the need to vote for me and the NDC so that together we can drive development in Akwatia,” he said.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), on the other hand, staged a Unity Walk in Akwatia to demonstrate solidarity and reaffirm support for its parliamentary candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu.
The event, led by Eastern Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo and other regional executives, drew thousands of supporters. They were joined by National Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha, constituency executives, electoral area coordinators, polling station executives, and grassroots members.
The walk, which featured placards, chants, and music, saw participants march through the principal streets of Akwatia. Organisers described the turnout as evidence of the NPP’s readiness for the upcoming poll.
