The Overlord of Mamprugu, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II, has presented a comprehensive peace roadmap for Bawku to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
President John Dramani Mahama revealed this during his “Thank You” tour of the North East Region in Nalerigu on Friday, June 13.
He commended the Nayiri for submitting the crucial peace proposals to Otumfuo during the Manhyia mediation talks, which aim to resolve the long-standing conflict that has caused numerous deaths and widespread destruction.
Meeting with Otumfuo
In his address, President Mahama stated, “I met with His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II last week, and he briefed me on the progress toward achieving peace in Bawku.”
He added, “I am confident that the traditional solutions we are pursuing will soon bring sustainable peace to the Bawku conflict.”
Military Escort
President Mahama also announced that he had instructed the Ghana Armed Forces to provide armed escorts and protection for all vehicles traveling within Bawku, particularly along the Bawku-Pulmakom-Bolgatanga and Walewale-Bolgatanga corridors.
He noted that the military escort initiative has already proven effective, as previously blocked food convoy trucks have now safely reached their destinations instead of being stranded in Bolgatanga.
