Rihanna Returns with New Single, Ending Three-Year Music Break

Rihanna has taken to Instagram to drop a new trailer for her upcoming film Smurfs and reveals she is dropping a new song titled “Friend of Mine” as part of the film’s soundtrack. This will mark her first song in over three years.
The global superstar shared a snippet of the film she stars alongside John Goodman, James Corden, Nick Offerman and Sandra Oh. She is also a producer of Smurfs and has taken to social media to share, “new #SmurfsMovie trailer 🩵 featuring “Friend Of Mine” from the Smurfs soundtrack out friday. pre-save now.”
Comments sections flooded with excitement from her fans who appear to be glad that she is releasing new music one way or another. One user writes, “atleast she’s in the studio,” while another said “this is the closest so we’ll take it babe.”
“Friend of Mine” is the first song from Rihanna since her 2022 “Lift Me Up” track for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The song hit No. 2 on the Hot 100 and went platinum in 2023. Just last week at the Met Gala, Rihanna confirmed that new music is still on the way. Smurfs hits theaters on July 18.
