This should be a lesson to all Chiefs: Asantehene warns as he destools Mpasaaso No. 2 Chief over Galamsey, other offences

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II from his position as chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region after 41 years on the stool.

The chief was found guilty of multiple infractions, including illegal mining, also known as galamsey, questionable royal lineage, and failure to uphold accountability.

Nana Twumasi was destooled on Monday, March 10, 2025, along with four of his stool elders during a meeting of the Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace, which was chaired by the Asantehene.

Offences
The chief faced charges brought against him by his accusers, including the destooled queen of Mpasaaso No. 2. He was summoned to the Kumasi Traditional Council to respond to these accusations.

Nana Amofa Twumasi was found to have engaged in activities that undermined both the traditional authority and the well-being of the Mpasaaso community.

One of the main accusations leading to his removal was his involvement in illegal mining operations, which have caused significant environmental destruction in the area.

Additionally, the traditional council expressed concerns over his royal legitimacy and accused him of neglecting his responsibilities to the community and its leaders.

Removal and restoration
Before delivering the verdict, Otumfuo criticized the chief for his dishonesty. Asantehene Warns As He Destoolsolment should serve as a lesson to all chiefs.

Otumfuo subsequently restored the queen, who had been ousted by Nana Twumasi, to her former position. His Majesty also instructed her to follow the traditional processes to select a candidate for the now-vacant male stool.
