We suffered crushing defeat but will bounce back in 2028 – Majority Leader
The NPP has suffered a devastating defeat but with unity and hard work, the party will bounce back in 2028 , Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated.
He said he is looking forward to leading a formidable Minority in the next parliament that will contribute positively to the party’s successful prosecution of the next elections. “We will go with a common cause. We can repeat the 1997 model, and win 2028,” he said.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen political show on Tuesday, December 17, he said the Minority and the party need to put in hard work, pay attention to research and correct their mistakes. “I am signaling to the NDC that, the fact that they have overwhelming majority does not mean they are done with everything going into the future.
“We will be telling our success story and the time will come Ghanaians will know the difference. But we should be ready to correct our mistakes, not in the media but on our various internal party platforms,” he stated.
‘Patapaa’ Minority
Afenyo-Markin accused the Minority NDC of doing “patapaa” in the House over government business.
He questioned why the Minority wants the Minister of Finance to present the budget for the first quarter of 2025 for approval so that the incoming NDC government can run in the first three months in office when at the same time they are opposed to the approval of government business. “This is not reasonable. We have to cooperate and work together to ensure that government business goes on,” he stated.
Focus
The Majority Leader said NPP shouldn’t be sad enough with the outcome of the elections, but rather accept it and move on. “We need to work on the party. This government has worked well. Let’s give ourselves six months and Ghanaians will realise what we did.”
