Ashanti Region has already decided for NPP; Your invasion won’t change anything — COKA tells NDC
The opposition National Democratic Congress has been told not to waste their time in the Ashanti Region because the people of the region have already made up their mind to vote for the NPP.
A leading member of the NPP in the region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, said the NDC are panicking that is why the party has sent several of their leading members to the region as elections get closer.
In a post on his social media accounts, COKA stated, “They’re panicking, so they’re all in the Ashanti region now. Good morning to my NDC friends who traveled from Accra and are currently in Kumasi, but we’ve already made our decision for the Ashanti region and won’t change it.”
Widespread condemnation
Already the people of Ashanti Region are mad with the NDC for embarking on a massive and embarrassing tribal campaign in the region.
According to many of the people, they have already made up their mind to vote for the NPP and no amount of tribal pronouncements and other machinations would work for the NDC.
Desperation
In a desperate attempt to make an impact in the NPP stronghold, the NDC has sent known anti-Asante elements including national chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, national communications officer, Sammy Gyamfi, and the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to the region to campaign.
And since pitching camp in the region, these people have not hidden their tribal bigotry. They have tried to pitch Asantes against other tribes mainly for political reasons.
Fierce reactions
But, they are not finding things easy as the people have noticed their wicked intentions and have thus been giving them a rough time on radio and social media. The reactions from the people have been swift and fierce, and it appears the NDC has bitten more than it can chew.
Okudzeto Ablakwa
Last Monday, Okudzeto Ablakwa who was on a radio station, sought to advise Asantes to reject the NPP and vote for the NDC.
However, he had the shock of his life when a lady who called into the programme, exposed him as a tribal bigot who has come to the region to disrespect the people. The caller questioned why on a campaign event in the Volta Region, he (Okudzeto Ablakwa) told the people to remain faithful to the NDC only to come to Ashanti Region to tell the people to reject NPP.
Asiedu Nketia
Asiedu Nketia has also incurred the wrath of the people of the region after making some tribal statements. On a campaign trail in the region, the NDC national chairman accused President Akufo-Addo of sidelining Asantes to support a northerner during the NPP presidential primaries.
Reactions
The statement has elicited displeasure from many people in the region who have taken to social media to lambast him.
Some of the comments on Facebook are:
“What surprises me is the inclusion of some known tribal bigots who have on some occasions spoken ill about Ashanti and have no shame but have the effrontery to come to convince us to vote for them.”
“NDC is always trying to play the tribal cards. At one point NPP is Akan party and they will use we the northerners and dump us. Ghanaians have conscience.”
“Asiedu Nketia is a confused person. He simply doesn’t have any message. He is not aware that we have grown past tribal politics.”
“Politics is about who can best provide bold solutions to our problems.”
“They should rather focus on how they neglected voltarians. The Asantes will always be part of the NPP leadership and decision body.”
“Tribal bigotry is the hallmark of the NDC.“
“They are bereft of comprehensive ideas to convince electorates to their fold hence the loose talks and tribal trajectory taken.”
