Vacant seat brouhaha: MPs must avoid chaos and anarchy on Tuesday – Gabby

The Supreme Court on Friday directed Parliament to recognize and allow the four Members of Parliament whose seats were declared vacant by the Speaker on Thursday (17 October 2024) to continue to serve as MPs until the case is determined.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, declared four MPs’ seats vacant on Thursday (17 October).

The four MPs affected by the announcement are Andrews Asiamah Amoako, the MP for Fomena, Cynthia Mamle Morrison (Agona West), Kwadjo Asante (Suhum) and Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central).

Reacting to the development on Facebook on Sunday ( 20 October), Otchere-Darko advised the leadership of both the Majority and Minority in Parliament to meet with the Speaker to agree or disagree on the next step.

”Parliament must, by all means, avoid a situation of seeming chaos and anarchy Tuesday.”

”I suggest the two Leaders and Speaker meet before then to agree or agree to disagree on next steps. Not long to Dec 7, let maturity be our guide and guard,” Otchere Darko said.
